Getting started
Step 1: Install the app
Install Easy Margin from the Shopify App Store. A 5-day free trial activates automatically.
Step 2: Accept the estimate disclaimer
The first time you open Easy Margin, you will see a one-time screen explaining that every figure in the app is an estimate. Click "I understand, continue" to proceed.
Step 3: Complete the setup checklist
You will land on Settings, with a four-step checklist:
Add your products
Add your cost inputs
Tag your products
Set your margin floor
Each step completes automatically as you finish it, based on your real data. You can revisit any setup step at a later time.
Step 4: Pin the Easy Margin product block
The margin block on the product page only shows automatically for the staff member who added it, until it is pinned for the whole team. Pinning the block ensures your margin is visible on every visit.
Open any product in your Shopify admin
Scroll down the page to the Blocks section
Click "Add block"
Search for or select Easy Margin
Choose "Pin to page for all staff" by clicking the pin icon in the block's upper right corner
Do this once, and every staff member with product access sees the block automatically from then on.
Step 5: Pin the Easy Margin orders block
Identical to the products page, the margin block on the orders page only shows automatically for the staff member who added it, until it is pinned for the whole team. Pin the Easy Margin block here in the same fashion to easily see blended margin for any order you open in the future.
App overview
Cost Inputs: your library of reusable cost line items, such as packaging, fulfillment fees, and payment processing fees
Product Map: attach cost inputs to your products and see price, estimated cost, and estimated margin for each one
Thresholds: set your minimum acceptable margin, shop-wide or overridden by collection, product, or variant
Basket Simulator: build a hypothetical shopping cart and preview its margin, with or without discounts, before a real order exists
Settings: your setup checklist, plan and billing, and resources
Cost components
Go to Cost Inputs to build your cost library. Each component has a type:
Per item: a flat cost charged for every unit sold
Per order: a cost charged once per order, no matter how many items are in it, such as one shipping box. In the simulator, Easy Margin deduplicates this automatically if several products in the same order share the same component
Per weight unit: a cost that scales with a product's weight, in grams, kilograms, pounds, or ounces
% of price: a cost calculated as a percentage of the selling price, such as a payment processing fee
If a cost is for shipping, mark it as a shipping cost and say whether customers normally pay for it. Shipping you absorb counts against margin right away. Shipping the customer normally pays only counts against margin when you run a free-shipping promotion, since that is the moment you start absorbing it.
All cost inputs sync with your product catalog immediately. If you make a change (e.g., cost of merino wool goes up by $1.00), then your margin estimates adjust automatically for all implicated products.
Tagging products
Go to Product Map. Add products individually or by collection, then attach the cost components that apply to each one. Choose a base cost source for each product: either Shopify's own cost-per-item field, or a manual figure you enter.
If you haven't set up base costs in Shopify, your base cost will start at 0; if you have previously managed product costs manually per product or are just testing Easy Margin and do not want to disrupt your existing data, select manual.
Products with more than one variant show a price and cost range when the variants differ, and Easy Margin uses the worst-case variant to decide whether a product is flagged. Open a product's edit view to see the margin breakdown for each of its variants.
Per-variant cost overrides (optional)
If one variant's real cost differs from the rest of the product, for example a larger size that costs more to ship, open the product's edit view, find the variant, and choose "Customize this variant." Give it its own base cost and cost components. Choose "Remove customization" to go back to inheriting the product's setup.
Setting your margin floor
Go to Thresholds. Set a shop-wide minimum margin percentage, then override it for specific collections, products, or variants if some parts of your catalog run thinner margins than others.
Overrides are resolved most specific first: a variant override wins over a product override, which wins over a collection override, which wins over your shop default.
Checking a discount's impact before you launch it
Open any discount and choose "Estimated margin impact" from the actions menu. Easy Margin evaluates every configured product that discount actually targets, and shows which ones would fall below their margin floor, including whether any would sell at an outright loss.
For percentage and fixed-amount discounts, Easy Margin also tells you the largest discount you can run while keeping every affected product above its floor.
For free shipping discounts, Easy Margin shows the impact of absorbing shipping costs you would otherwise pass on to the customer.
This tool never changes your discount and never excludes a product automatically. It is advisory only.
The Basket Simulator
Go to Simulator to build a hypothetical shopping cart of products and quantities and see the same margin math a real order would produce, before that order exists. This is most useful for merchants who have observed common basket combinations and want to test discounts and cost adjustments against a blended margin.
Save up to five baskets you check often, and reload them anytime with current prices and costs
Apply a real active discount, or a hypothetical percent (fixed-amount, or free-shipping discount) to see before-and-after margin
Order-level costs and shipping costs are shown separately from per-item costs
How margin is calculated
For each variant, Easy Margin adds the base cost (Shopify's cost-per-item or your manual figure) to any attached cost components to get an estimated unit cost. Estimated margin is price minus estimated cost, divided by price.
Per order costs are not included in a single variant's estimate, since a product page has no way to know what else will share that order. They appear once per order instead, on the order page and in the Simulator.

FAQ
Does Easy Margin change my prices, costs, or discounts?
No. Easy Margin is read-only. It estimates margin from the data you provide and never writes back to your products, orders, or discounts.
Where do the cost numbers come from?
From two places you control: the base cost, either Shopify's own cost-per-item field or a manual figure you enter, and any cost components you attach, such as packaging or fulfillment fees.
Why does a product show "Incomplete"?
A product shows Incomplete when it has no real cost data yet: no Shopify cost, no manual cost, and no cost components attached. It also shows Incomplete if a component needs data it does not have, such as a per-weight cost on a variant with no weight set.
Why does a product show "Gift card" instead of a margin?
Gift cards do not have a real cost of goods, so Easy Margin does not estimate a margin for them.
What is the difference between base cost and cost components?
Base cost is the core cost of the product itself. Some merchants use base cost to describe the manufacturing cost, while cost components account for royalties, packaging material, processing fees, etc. When setting up your library, you can decide to use base costs, components, or both.
A discount does not seem to be affecting a product I expected. Why not?
Easy Margin only evaluates products a discount actually targets. If a discount is scoped to specific products or a specific collection, products outside that scope are not evaluated, even if they are configured in Easy Margin.
How do I remove a product from Easy Margin?
Open the product in Product Map and choose "Remove product." This deletes its cost setup in Easy Margin. It does not affect the product in Shopify.
How do I change or cancel my plan?
Go to Settings and select "View plans." Billing is handled entirely by Shopify's hosted pricing page.
I do not see the Easy Margin block on my product page. What do I do?
See "Pin the product margin block" in Getting started above. Blocks only show automatically for the staff member who added them until pinned for the whole team.
